What is the TUAA?
As we continue to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Temple University Alumni Association, we’re taking a moment to go back to the basics. Whether you’re a longtime TUAA volunteer or still getting to know the organization, our new feature takes a closer look at who we are, how we’re structured and the role TUAA plays in the Temple community.
Upon graduation, every new graduate becomes a lifetime member of the Temple University Alumni Association (TUAA)—but what exactly does that membership mean?
For 100 years, the TUAA has been connecting Temple’s growing alumni community and strengthening the lifelong bond between Owls and their university. Today, that community includes more than 385,000 alumni across all 50 states and 154 countries.
At its heart, the TUAA is an inclusive, supportive volunteer organization dedicated to keeping alumni connected to Temple and to one another. Through a variety of events, services and programs, the TUAA creates opportunities to celebrate the Temple experience, support the university’s mission of learning, and remain part of the Temple family long after graduation.
A Brief History
The Temple University Alumni Association was founded in 1927 when Temple’s second President Charles Beury stated, “The General Alumni Association would be a clearinghouse of ideas and ideas for all.” In 2006, the name was changed to the Temple University Alumni Association, or TUAA.
The Parliament is the 52-member governing body representing all Temple University alumni. It includes representatives from each of Temple’s school and college alumni associations, regional networks across the country and abroad, shared interest groups, the Owl Club, and faculty and student organizations. It exists as a leadership group to foster closer relationships between alumni and the university, serving as a two-way conduit for alumni everywhere.
The TUAA supports Temple University in its educational and philanthropic mission, serving to foster closer relationships between students, alumni and the university through programs, benefits and services. The TUAA includes over 500 active volunteers representing 23 unique constituent alumni groups.
Who is in the TUAA?
Upon graduation, all alumni are welcomed into the Temple University Alumni Association, a worldwide network of more than 385,000 living alumni in 50 states and 154 countries. All alumni are lifetime members of TUAA immediately upon graduation—it’s free and there is no application required!
TUAA Priorities
The TUAA completed a Strategic Planning Process in 2023 (that runs through 2028), developing the following six programming priorities:
- Spirit, Pride and Celebration
- Best-In-Class Communications
- Early Engagement
- Professional and Affinity Enagement
- Collaboration Across All Units
- Advancing Philanthropy

Christopher Borden, FOX ’08
Chris most recently served as TUAA vice president of external affairs and previously as TUAA treasurer and chair of the TUAA Budget and Investments Committee. He’s managing director and financial advisor with Stedmark Partners at Janney Montgomery Scott and an adjunct professor at the Temple College of Engineering.
The TUAA’s Executive Committee, consisting of officers and directors at-large, represents all Temple University alumni and serves as governing body of the TUAA.

Join Us for Events
The Temple University Alumni Association brings Owls together and keeps the Temple community connected long after graduation. Whether you are returning to campus, meeting up with fellow alumni or finding new ways to stay engaged with Temple, the TUAA offers opportunities to connect, celebrate and make an impact.
Throughout the year, join the TUAA at signature events and traditions like Homecoming & Family Weekend, Temple Made Days and more. From campus traditions to alumni gatherings, there are plenty of ways to reconnect with your Temple community and celebrate what it means to be an Owl.
Getting Involved
Regional Networks
Regional network ambassadors support engagement efforts both near and far through our Regional Networks in Atlanta, the DMV (D.C., Maryland, Virginia), Greater Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Metro New York and Northern California.
Regional Volunteers
While it is not possible to have formal regional networks in all areas, we strive to ensure all alumni feel connected to and engaged with Temple, regardless of location. Regional volunteers play an essential role in less structured positions, supporting peer-to-peer outreach and organizing pop-up events.
Alumni Career Services
Alumni Career Services supports Owls’ career growth, offering alumni career resources for all career stages. The program provides networking and job search tools, support in optimizing resumes and interview prep, and more.
Affinity Networks
Affinity networks are alumni groups that come together based on shared personal affinities, interests and university experiences. The TUAA currently supports three affinity programs but is also working on creating new opportunities for Temple’s diverse communities to engage meaningfully.
