Temple Together: Highlights from Recent Community Conversations

Over the last year, alumni, friends and leadership gathered across the country to deepen engagement and highlight the strength of the Temple community.

Just months into his tenure as Temple University’s 15th president, John Fry made it a priority to strengthen connections with the Temple community both on and beyond the North Philadelphia campus. Over the past year, he has taken his vision on the road, meeting with students, alumni and supporters where they are, no matter how far. From gatherings in the Philadelphia suburbs and New York to events in Washington, D.C., Florida and Los Angeles, President Fry has engaged Temple’s network not only to celebrate the #TempleMade spirit, but to deepen the bond between the university and its extended community.

March 2025 | Washington, D.C.

The first stop on the tour brought alumni and friends to the National Union Building in Washington, D.C., on March 25, 2025, alongside trustee Steve Charles and President Fry.

“The Temple community has really welcomed me with open arms, and one thing that I’ve discovered since arriving is that the consensus around Temple’s mission and the sense of shared purpose here is remarkable. That is a real asset that many institutions lack; there is a real sense of who we are, and that can be a strong rallying cry for us moving forward.”

September 2025 | New York City

The second stop brought Temple to The St. Regis Hotel in New York City on September 17, 2025, alongside President Fry, Interim Provost David Boardman and Trustee Amy Larovere.

“I want to start by emphasizing a popular phrase that I have already heard a great deal since starting as president: ‘Owls are everywhere.’ Yes, it’s a cliche, but the numbers also do not lie. There are more than 380,000 alumni living across the world. Just consider that number for a moment.”

September & October 2025 | Philadelphia Suburbs

The tour continued through the Philadelphia suburbs, with stops at The 1912 Club in Plymouth Meeting on September 30, the Radnor Hunt Club on October 6 and the Northampton Valley Country Club on October 20.

“Advancing research and innovation is central to Temple’s mission as Philadelphia’s public research university. With our state-of-the-art facilities, urban location, world-class faculty and visionary students with dreams of making an impact, we have all that is needed to spur innovation.”

November 2025 | California

Capping off the fall, the tour visited California with stops at the Brentwood Country Club in Los Angeles on November 13 and the Balboa Bay Resort in Newport Beach on November 14, alongside President Fry and Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement Al Checcio.

“Over the past year, Temple has deepened its commitment to access and opportunity in meaningful ways, from launching Temple Future Scholars to support low-income, first-generation students starting in middle school, to joining the University Innovation Alliance to reduce equity gaps and improve student success, to earning national recognition in the Carnegie Classification for both research and student outcomes. Together, these milestones show how our mission is driving real progress, and that momentum is reflected in welcoming the largest first-year class in Temple’s history this fall.”

January 2026 | Florida

The new year began with two visits in Florida: the Delray Sands Resort in Highland Beach on January 22 and The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach on January 23, again joined by President Fry and Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement Al Checcio.

“Our Strategic Plan will serve as Temple’s compass at a time when higher education is changing rapidly, ensuring that Temple and Temple Health continue to lead as Philadelphia’s anchor institutions in innovation, research, student success and social impact. As we approach our 150th anniversary and prepare for an ambitious fundraising campaign, this shared vision calls for a culture of partnership across schools and disciplines, supported by campus investments that create a more vibrant and collaborative environment for our community.”

March 2026 | Naples

Spring brought a visit to the LaPlaya Beach & Golf Resort on March 25 in Naples, again joined by President Fry and Senior Vice President of Institutional Advancement Al Checcio.

“If you believe in this institution, I also encourage you to give back. This past year was our most successful year from a fundraising standpoint, but I also firmly believe that this is just the beginning for us. We have all the necessary ingredients—a strong alumni base, an access and research-driven mission and an urban setting with endless opportunities—to really be leaders when it comes to philanthropy and fundraising."
