Summer 2025 Featured Alumni

Molly Burt-Westvig,
TYL ’24

Molly was recently announced as a 2025 recipient of the AAF/Seebacher Prize for Fine Arts. This summer, she will spend two weeks in Salzburg, Austria, taking a video course at the Summer Arts Academy alongside other emerging artists. The AAF/Seebacher Prize supports three outstanding recent MFA graduates annually, covering tuition and lodging in a historic castle.

Joey was recently ranked as one of the top social media influencers reshaping how young Americans receive their political news.

Jamie Cooperstein,
STH ’12

Jamie, a lifelong Philadelphian and founder of J. Cooperstein Hospitality Consulting, LLC, recently released her debut memoir, True Hospitality, in April, published by GFB. Written in the spirit of a beach read, the memoir offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into her decade-long career as a concierge in two of Philadelphia’s most iconic luxury properties: The Rittenhouse Hotel and Two Liberty Place.

Casie Girvin, BYR ’17

Casie, the artistic director of the Philadelphia-based Circus Opera Company, recently presented her award-winning performance The Tire Swing for a limited engagement in May at Christ Church Neighborhood House. She was heartened to see how much the show has continued to resonate since its premiere at the 2024 Fringe Festival. The Circus Opera Company explores the synthesis of circus and classical music.

Paul Kahan, CLA ’09

Paul’s recent book, Philadelphia: A Narrative History (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2025), received the Annual Preservation Award for publications from the Heritage Commission of Delaware County.

Kent Kauffman,
CLA ’89

Kent recently published his fourth book, Navigating Choppy Waters: Key Legal Issues College Faculty Need to Know. Topics include legal risks in grading decisions, whether a syllabus constitutes a contract, intellectual property rights, defamation law as it applies to faculty, and the legal implications of tenure rejection and revocation.

Jasmine Lynea, TFM ’15

Jasmine, a film director and mixed media artist, recently had her short film Della Can Fly! selected for the BlackStar Film Festival. Jasmine wrote and directed the film, which follows an elderly man on his journey to prove that his missing sister truly flew away, as family legend suggests.

Gabriel Massalley,
TYL ’15

Gabriel recently launched the Status Apparel DC University-Inspired Collection, a limited-edition line that reimagines college apparel through the lens of personal pride, cultural identity and lived experience. Highlights include the “SG Established” TU Owls Premium Crew, TU Owls Premium Striped Jersey, Status Striped Socks and embroidered patches inspired by university culture.

FOX ’09

Sean recently joined the team at C&S Wholesale Grocers as senior director of merchandising. He is excited to contribute to the company’s mission by driving innovative merchandising strategies, enhancing supply chain solutions and amplifying community impact.

Maria Sharmin, FOX ’24

Maria, currently working as an HR and internship coordinator at EMILY’s List, recently launched her own business, Guru For Success. The organization provides one-on-one coaching, tips and strategies to help students—whether in high school, college or recently graduated—reach their full potential in academics, scholarships, internships, personal finance and personal growth.
