TUAA President,
Amy Larovere:

Championing Temple’s Mission,
One Tailgate at a Time

Amy Larovere, KLN ’83, exemplifies a profound connection and unwavering commitment to Temple University, a place she calls her true home. As the president of the Temple University Alumni Association (TUAA), and university trustee, Amy finds many ways to share her passion for her beloved Temple community. An avid Temple Athletics supporter, her frequent attendance at tailgates held by the alumni association ahead of every home football game, including during Homecoming and Family Weekend, highlights just how impactful alumni involvement can be.

As a second-generation student, Amy Larovere, KLN ’83, held an affinity for Temple since she was a child. At family dinners, she was often regaled with stories about how our university had transformed her father’s life. Her father, the first college graduate in their family, often spoke of the university with such admiration, describing it as "this amazing place, right down the street from us." These stories etched a calling in Amy’s heart, guiding her to Temple, and from the moment she set foot on campus, she felt an undeniable sense of belonging.

"When I arrived at Temple, I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be, immersed in the heart of the city, surrounded by people from all walks of life and encouraged by world-class professors with hands-on experience in their industries. It was a transformative experience,” reflects Amy.

Amy also saw Temple’s dynamic campus as the perfect backdrop for her creative aspirations in filmmaking. This real-world atmosphere filled with diverse perspectives and opportunities became the living, breathing classroom that shaped her into a more creative and insightful artist. Additionally, Amy studied abroad at Temple London, which further broadened her perspective and deepened her understanding of the world.

After graduation, Amy’s filmmaking journey led her to New York and later San Francisco. Despite her impressive career, Temple’s impact remained a constant thread in her life. In fact, one of her first opportunities came during an open call for production assistants. With only nine spots and hundreds of applicants, Amy doubted her chances until she heard, "Amy Larovere from Temple University." The recruiter, also an Owl, had placed her resume on top. Later in her career, many of the connections she made at Temple London also helped her network and eventually secure opportunities to work on a James Bond film.

“The connections I’ve made at Temple were invaluable to my career. Owls always open doors for each other because we are a community, and nothing is ever going to change that. Plus, we have such an illustrious student body, and a reputation for working harder than anyone else,” proudly states Amy.

Amy also stayed connected with Temple by keeping track of March Madness and attending the occasional football game with her father, but a deeper level of engagement and commitment evolved in the 90s, once her career and personal life had settled. “I started going to football games regularly and this whole entire community opened up to me,” says Amy. “I brought all my friends who brought their friends, and our worlds just got really large.”

Amy's tailgate became more than just a tradition; it turned into a central part of her life and her connection to Temple that still stands today. For her, it’s a celebration of community, forging connections and preserving the vibrant spirit of Temple she felt since she was young.

Her consistent presence at these events led to invitations to join committees and take on more responsibilities. Her commitment extended beyond tailgates to leadership roles within the New York Chapter, the Owl Club and the TUAA, culminating in her current roles as TUAA president and trustee.

As president, Amy is dedicated to ensuring that every voice in the diverse alumni community is heard and valued, continuing her lifelong passion for community and connection. Even as her role and responsibilities have evolved, Amy continues her tailgate throughout the football season and hardly misses a game.

“There’s nothing better than screaming for your team with your community. And when it’s our students, we get to watch them learn and grow on the field. It’s a unique feeling of pride and connection, supporting them because they’re the next generation of Owls," expresses Amy.

Today Amy’s tailgate is all about supporting our Owls on the field and beyond. Known for its incredible food, local brews and products from nearby businesses, it’s a vibrant event that reintroduces guests to Temple while encouraging support for student-athletes through the Owl Club. Although joining the Owl Club is not required to attend Amy’s tailgate, many of her guests become members or donors that help provide crucial resources to enhance student-athletes' academic and athletic success. Through this tailgate, Amy continues to foster connections and support Temple’s mission, blending Temple pride and celebration with meaningful impact.

Homecoming and Family Weekend, which includes Temple’s biggest tailgate of the year, holds a special place in Amy’s heart. While she eagerly anticipates seeing you at her own tailgate this year, she also looks forward to the broader festivities both on campus and at the Linc.

“The Homecoming Tailgate has such a fantastic atmosphere, from the alumni tailgate to the various schools' and colleges' booths. It’s truly fantastic,” says Amy. “But there’s a whole week of celebration. I love seeing the students decorate the golf carts, going to jazz concerts, and my favorite event, the Tyler Art Market. I try to do all my holiday shopping there. The talent is incredible.”

Amy's dedication to Temple University is deeply rooted in her love for sports, which first reconnected her, her family and friends to the university in the 90s. Recognizing the power of sports to engage people and energize the community, she also chose to financially invest in what she acknowledges as the “front porch of the university,” as a way to bring more active alumni back to the nest with her.

Today, Amy holds a tremendous legacy as a supporter of Temple students. Her commitment extends beyond athletics to the Boyer College of Music and Dance, where her family funds a saxophone scholarship, driven by their passion for the jazz band. This scholarship reflects their dedication to easing the financial burdens of talented students while also investing in programs that engage the entire Temple community.

“I admire our young athletes, musicians, artists and performers that put themselves out there for the cherry and white, but all of Temple’s hardworking students are so deserving—they put themselves out there to better themselves, and after they graduate, go out to make a positive impact in the world. We need to ensure that all Temple’s students have access to some financial assistance regardless of their backgrounds,” explains Amy.

Temple University emphasizes the transformative power of education and the role of scholarships in removing barriers to success through initiatives like Made for More. This three-year scholarship initiative aims to raise $125 million to support students with the help of generous alumni and donors like Amy.

“Made for More is a wonderful opportunity to change the trajectory of someone's life and bolster the reputation of our university. Our students need scholarships, and we also need scholarships to attract amazing students to follow in our footsteps,” affirms Amy.

As Amy continues to support Temple through her role as TUAA president, her strategic vision for alumni engagement and her generous philanthropy, her story remains a testament to the profound impact of dedication, community and unwavering commitment to her alma mater. Amy’s commitment to her community has clearly enriched her life and deepened her own Temple roots while simultaneously enhancing others' connections to the university and positively impacting the lives of those she serves.

Amy’s message to fellow alumni and donors is clear and heartfelt: “Look for opportunities to participate like Homecoming and Family Weekend. Look for opportunities to give like Made for More, whether large or small. Just join us. It’s a joyous, enriching experience for everyone involved where you become a part of something bigger than yourself.” Reflecting her belief in the transformative power of collective involvement, she adds, “We need you to show up for our studentsthe greater support from the crowd, the better support from donors, the better our Owls can do on and off the field. When we unite in support of our alma mater, extraordinary things happen.”
